What is IFAT and why is it important for the waste management industry?
The International Trade Fair for Sewage Technology (IFAT) is the world's leading trade fair for water, sewage, waste and raw materials management and takes place every two years in Munich. Since the trade fair in 2020 had to be cancelled due to corona, the joy of all involved was all the greater this year. From 30 May to 3 June 2022, the event focused on the sustainable use of resources and thus also on climate protection. Around 3,000 exhibiting companies from 59 countries presented themselves at IFAT in 18 exhibition halls and a large outdoor area. They were joined by around 119,000 visitors from 155 countries who wanted to keep up to date with the latest environmental technologies and take advantage of the opportunity to network. The size and internationality of the trade fair make IFAT particularly exciting for the industry.
And what is COSMO CONSULT doing at IFAT?
It's simple - our experts specialised in the waste management industry and our COSMO CONSULT Environmental Services Solution are always keen to keep up to date with the latest developments in the industry. After a four-year break, our Environmental Services team was even more looking forward to finally meeting prospective customers, existing customers and potential partners on site again. Once again, international decision-makers, experts and market participants gathered at the trade fair to tackle the major challenges facing the industry together. Not only were suitable IT solutions presented, but useful tools were also demonstrated. Among other things, the visitors could admire huge machines for crushing concrete, shredders and sorting robots.
Our COSMO team took a look at what the competition is up to and which new technologies will drive the digital transformation in the future. Sensor technologies and the data they generate are an important pillar for the future. In order to continue to offer our customers the optimal solutions to further expand their potential in the digital sector, we also evaluated potential new partnerships on site.
What does the future hold?
In addition to the exhibition, there were also many exciting lectures and live demonstrations to draw attention to the developments and problem areas of the environmental sector. Due to the social challenges in the fields of climate change, environmental protection and resource efficiency, the need for innovative, environmental technology solutions is also increasing. Therefore, technology in this field is developing rapidly. The Start-up Zone at IFAT gave a good overview of what can and will await us in the coming years! About 50 start-ups from 16 nations were represented and showed that progress does not sleep. There is always more research and tinkering going on to bring water, sewage, waste and raw materials management technologically up to date. These innovations pursue the goal of optimising the processes of the industry to simplify work and make it even more efficient in the future.
We stay tuned to support our customers in their digital transformation in the best possible way! If you would like to learn more about the trends and solutions in the waste management industry, our experts will be happy to help you personally.
